I'm a very strong Arsenal fan but I find the level of your footballing discourse and analysis rather high and nourishing. By writing about ManU, you actually write about fundamentals in managing a football club, fundamentals that mostly generalize to any other football team. Been wanting to say this since I started following your Substack last year.
Another sensible piece. I wonder if we're doing the same thing with Cunha and Mbeumo, players who like to occupy the same area of the pitch as Bruno, Mount, and (to an extent) Amad. If buying a (26yo) Mbeumo and playing him as the right-sided 10 means moving Bruno into one of the 8s (alongside...Ugarte? Casemiro? Mainoo?), and Amad to RWB, is that the best of use of their skillsets? In a similar vein, is spending £120m on two players with a combined age of 52 the best use of limited funds, given the glaring lack of a press resistant central midfielder who's able to play line breaking passes and connect the defence with the forwards? Over to you, Jason Wilcox...
I think that if Mbeumo is Red, Bruno shall be a CM and Amad is RWB to improve Man United's attacking ability.
There are many clubs want Man United to spend most of the time controlling the ball such as final Europa League with Tottenham, Aston Villa in final round of EPL...
I hope that Man United learned the meaning of connection between players. Cunha and Mbeumo may be not suitable with Hojlund but Zirkzee is fine. Zirkzee can play as False 9, and Cunha and Mbeumo are main scorer of Man United.
I very like Hojlund and I hope him can improve his ability and stay Old Trafford.
Amad is 22 years old, and he don't look like as Yamal so he can play RWB or squad from 2-3 years. When he is 25 years old, he shall be a RAM of Man United and Mbeumo can move to other clubs and help Man United get some money.
I agree that we are rebuilding, but if Cunha, Mbeumo can contribute Man United in Top 6 of next season, we must buy them to improve our financial capacity.
